Violin Philosophy

At Woodriver, we are dedicated to guiding beginners through a comprehensive and enjoyable violin journey. Our violin tuition program focuses on building a strong foundation in technique, theory, and repertoire. Whether you're taking your first steps in music or aspiring to master the works of renowned composers, we're here to lead you through the techniques that accomplished violinists have employed to create beautiful melodies.

Our curriculum goes beyond preparation for assessments; we create a supportive environment that encourages self-expression and fosters creativity from the very start. We empower students to embark on their musical exploration, nurturing their ideas and allowing them to craft their own melodies. With a solid grasp of proper technique and an understanding of fundamental concepts, you'll gain the confidence to perform and develop your unique musical voice.

Why should you learn an instrument?

  • Picking up your instrument is just as much an act of mindfulness as it is an act of practice and discipline . Playing music allows you to be present and relaxed as you switch off to your surroundings and explore your instrument.

  • Learning a new skill can be nerve wrecking for a lot of us but the hardest step is to actually start! Once you feel comfortable moving around the instrument you might even feel up for performing in front of people. Playing live gigs can also help you manage anxiety and perform in other areas of life.

  • Learning a musical instrument enhances cognitive ability as it involves retaining and recalling information. This process utilises both hemispheres of your brain and many of these benefits roll over into other learning experiences.

  • Playing music is not only a fun pastime, it can also help you calm down, change your mood and express yourself. Research shows that playing and composing music can reduce stress by slowing down your heart rate and lowering your blood pressure.

  • Explore the sounds and tones that excite you and find ways to place them in musical phrases. Creative expression is an excellent way to process emotions and trauma you may have experienced. Playing or composing music is a great means of expression.

  • Playing an instrument is a great way to meet like minded people or become closer with friends who also play. Creating music together and collaborating over ideas helps build a scene of community and connection.
